Building Buzz
Maybe you have heard of this term before. It’s a favorite term we marketing people like to throw around. For us, building a buzz about your business is fun, it’s challenging, and it’s how we know we made the grade.
So what is buzz?
In a nutshell, buzz is the term applied to building your name recognition. The more people see or hear your name, the more they will remember it, and be more likely to look you up. Ideally, potential clients should see or hear your name every time they turn around.
Buzz is built with effective marketing. Through careful planning of your marketing efforts, you can create buzz. It can start with a postcard sent out to your potential clients. Then one day Mr. Potential is driving down the highway and sees your billboard. Later, he sees an article in the paper about your business. Then he sees a flyer at the post office that says you are hosting a seminar. He turns on his radio and hears a catchy new jingle - turns out it’s your business. Every few days, or few weeks, Mr. Potential is seeing or hearing your name. Eventually, when Mr. Potential needs services you offer, he’ll think of you long before he thinks of flipping through the phone book.
Not surprisingly, buzz is at its best when it builds on itself. A press release about the finalizing of a great new project gets you called in for an interview. Thepress from the interview results in a new client. The new project with the new client turns out to be press-worthy too, so it warrants another press release, where another prospect sees your name. See how this goes?
The better known you are, the more work will come your way. Even if your competition is technically better than you are.
